Paris-Saclay, October 15, 2024 – Kadans Science Partner is proud to announce the start of construction work on THE MIX by the general contractor BATEG (Vinci Construction). This project is the result of a virtuous collaboration with local players, notably the Etablissement public d’Aménagement Paris Saclay (EPAPS), the Agglomération Paris-Saclay and the Gif sur Yvette town council. Scheduled for completion in the second half of 2026, THE MIX will be the first techtiaire building in Paris-Saclay, with 15,000 m² dedicated to innovation and the growth of the deeptech ecosystem.
The building, designed by the architects of Chartier Dalix, offers around 50% laboratory and prototyping space, to accommodate a community of 600 researchers. The building is designed to be multi-occupant and modular, around an atrium and generous living spaces to encourage emulation and serendipity.
Reflecting Paris-Saclay’s ambitions in terms of innovation and sustainability, the building will be constructed using sustainable and low-carbon materials – cut stone on the facade and wood joinery – and aims for the highest environmental certifications: RE2020, HQE sustainable building level Excellent and BREEAM level Excellent.
The MIX will be the second building developed and managed by Kadans Science Partner in France. It is due to open one year after the completion of THE HIVE, which is located on the Campus Grand Parc in Villejuif and dedicated to innovation in oncology.
The MIX aims to support the growth of the Paris-Saclay ecosystem by enabling companies from the platform’s many innovation hubs to find suitable spaces for their prototyping and pre-industrialization phases. It will also enable major French and foreign companies to set up at the heart of Paris-Saclay, giving them easier access to experts, talent and academic and industrial laboratories and platforms.
The MIX will host companies whose R&D activities are aligned with Paris-Saclay’s verticals of excellence: computing power (especially quantum computing); healthcare, in particular for innovative therapies, precision medicine and medtech; agro-food, with a focus on precision fermentation and microbiota; and environmental transition, especially in materials and energy. JLL will support Kadans Science Partner in its marketing activities.
This strategy played a key role in ING Bank’s decision to support the project through financial backing, after supporting Kadans Science Partner in several developments in the Netherlands and Belgium. This partnership illustrates ING’s desire to actively support projects at the heart of innovation and scientific progress. More generally, this initiative is in line with ING’s strategy of promoting projects that have a positive impact on society.
The MIX is already the subject of a reservation agreement for more than 10% of its surface area for a promising gene therapy biotech, which will install its R&D activities. It is the latest addition to the range of innovative companies to emerge from Paris-Saclay’s thriving ecosystem.
